NEWARK, N.J. – William Paterson tennis (0-4, 0-2 NJAC) kept its New Jersey Athletic Conference match against Rutgers-Newark (1-2, 1-1 NJAC) close to the end before falling on the road, 7-2, Sept. 17.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In doubles play, the tandem of sophomore Ashley Sawyer (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) and senior Nicole D'Ascoli (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) took six games in the first flight before dropping the match, 8-6. In second doubles, the pairing of senior Julienn Guzman (Jersey City, N.J./Liberty) and junior Danielle Nussberger (Lafayette, N.J./Sussex County Technical) also won six games during their 8-6 setback.
• D'Ascoli regrouped in singles action, taking the second flight 7-6, 6-1 over Newark's Bryanna Thaxton. Guzman was also a winner in her third singles match, topping Yerram Reddy 6-4, 6-4.
