Softball Succumbs to No. 23 Kean

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson softball (16-14, 3-9 NJAC) suffered a pair of setbacks, 10-1 and 13-0, to visiting No. 23 Kean (28-5, 8-4 NJAC) April 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game One
  • WP got on the scoreboard first when junior second baseman Andee Lupica (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Conception) singled home freshman left fielder Janaya Espino (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech).
  • Kean used a hit, two errors, a sac bunt and a hit by pitch to tie things up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth.
  • The Cougars crossed the plate nine times during the sixth to come away with the 10-1 margin.
Game Two
  • After Kean used a WP fielding error for a 1-0 edge during the top of the first, the visitors touched home eight times in the second, twice in the third, once in the fourth and once in the fifth to close out the scoring.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Game One
  • Sophomore lefty Caitlyn Massaro (Madison, N.J./Madison) took the loss (7-6) after allowing seven runs (six earned) over 5.0 innings of work.
Game Two
  • Lupica suffered the loss (2-4), giving up six runs on three hits in 1.1 innings.

  • WP welcomes Rutgers-Camden to Pioneer Softball Field Friday, April 19, for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
