Pioneers can't hold late lead against NJAC rival

GALLOWAY, N.J. – Despite leading late in both games, the William Paterson softball team (16-12, 3-7 NJAC) was unable to hold off Stockton (17-13, 5-5 NJAC), who rallied to sweep the doubleheader, 7-4 and 8-2, April 14.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Pioneers doubled their advantage in the fourth on freshman shortstop Anna Nunziato's (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) RBI-single.
  • Stockton used a double, fielder's choice, single and two fielding errors to move in front, 3-2, during the home half of the fifth.
  • William Paterson tied things up in the top of the sixth when freshman Jillian Bigos (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) crossed home via a wild pitch, and regained the lead when freshman left fielder Janaya Espino (Woodland Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech) singled in Nunziato.
  • The Ospreys recorded four runs on four hits and an error in the sixth to conclude the scoring.
Game Two
  • A pair of run-scoring singles from Pace in the first and fourth innings helped WP open a 2-0 advantage.
