HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneers seized a 5-0 lead during their first at-bat, using a two-run error, two-RBI double by junior third baseman Carlos Perez (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) and run-scoring single by junior second baseman Matt Ferrara (Paramus, N.J./Paramus).
  • WP added seven more in the third with a Ferrara RBI-single, two-run doubles by sophomore center fielder Steven DiGirolamo (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) and sophomore left fielder Frankie Deane (Dumont, N.J./Dumont), and run-scoring base hits by junior designated hitter Vin Dorio (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) and sophomore catcher Steve Yelin (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional).
  • After the Gothic Knights crossed the plate twice during the home half of the third, William Paterson made it a 13-2 game in the fourth with two errors and a single.
  • NJCU scored once during the home half of the fifth and six times in the sixth, cutting it to a 13-9 margin.
  • Ferrara's bases-loaded fielder's choice added one more run during the top of the seventh inning.
  • Sophomore first baseman Carson Weis (River Vale, N.J./Pascack Valley Regional) led off the top of the ninth with a home run to left-center field, extending the lead to 15-9.
  • Two hits and a pair of errors allowed the Gothic Knights to plate a pair of unearned runs during their final at-bat.
