Head Coach Ed Gurka Tallies 400th Victory as Women's Swimming and Diving Bests Purchase

Sophomore Megan Hoopes is a Double Winner in her Debut

Coach Ed Gurka hit a coaching milestone, 400 wins.

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Ed Gurka earned his 400^th victory as head coach of the William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (6-1, 0-1 NJAC) while the Pioneers topped the Panthers (2-4, 1-2 Skyline), 96-67, Nov. 12.

TOP PERFORMERS:

Sophomore Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.) was a double winner in tonight's meet. The sophomore's victories in the 50 free (28.15) and the 100 free (1:01.52) contributed to the Pioneer score.
Senior Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) claimed the 100 fly in 1:09.40.
Sophomore Leah Santonastaso (Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) swam a winning time of 13:04.07 in the 1000 free.
Freshman Jillian Starace (Toms River/Toms River East) touched first in the 200 free with a time of 2:24.67.
Mariah Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) out-touched the other swimmers in the 100 breast. The senior posted a 1:17.02 finish.
Sophomore Taylor Friedman (South Amboy, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) took first in the 100 back (1:11.67).

IN THE NUMBERS:

Now in his 44th season, Gurka holds a record of 400-197-3 as head coach of the William Paterson women's swimming and diving team.
