Late Rally Falls Short as Tennis Suffers 5-4 Loss at Hunter

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Despite taking the final three singles flights, William Paterson tennis (0-9) could not complete its rally, falling on the road to Hunter (9-1), 5-4, Oct. 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After the Hawks took the first two doubles matches, the pairing of junior Carly McDaniel (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) and sophomore Anna Nunziato (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) got the Pioneers on the board with an 8-0 victory.
In fourth-singles, senior Nicole D'Ascoli (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) took the match 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) to secure her fourth win of the season.
McDaniel improved her singles record for the season to 4-1 after downing Hunter's Bernice Shi 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
After splitting the first two sets, senior Julienn Guzman (Jersey City, N.J./Liberty) won a marathon third to record a 6-4, 3-6, 13-11 triumph.
Sophomore Ashley Sawyer (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) took the opening set of her second-singles flight before suffering a 6-2, 0-6, 1-6 setback.
