Field Hockey Drops 5-0 Decision Against No. 4 Rowan in NJAC Opener

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (6-5, 0-1 NJAC) was upended 5-0 by visiting No. 4 Rowan (8-1, 1-0 NJAC) in its first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) contest of the season Oct. 4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Profs deflected a pass into the right corner of the cage to get on the scoreboard in the eighth minute.
  • Rowan scored again shortly after for a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of play.
  • Forty nine seconds into the second quarter, Rowan found the back of the cage during a corner.
  • Goals in the 24th and 29th minute made the score 5-0 at halftime.
  • The Pioneers denied all shots on goal during the second half of the game.  
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional) tallied her second defensive save of the season at the 9:39 mark. 
  • The Pioneer goalies split time defending the cage.  Senior Kerianne Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) tallied four saves in the first half of the contest and sophomore Tara Weniger (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) notched three saves to finish out the game.

  • The Pioneers welcome Scranton for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7:00 p.m.
