WAYNE, N.J. – Although the game was tied at halftime, the William Paterson field hockey team (7-8, 0-4 NJAC) fell to Stockton (12-2, 2-2 NJAC), 2-1, after the Ospreys took the lead in the third quarter on Senior Night, Oct. 18. Prior to the start of the contest, eight Pioneer seniors were honored for their contributions on and off the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A Stockton forward took a straight shot to cage in the 24th minute to bring the score to 1-0 after a scoreless first quarter.
- The Pioneers did not wait long to respond when senior Brianna Reyes (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) took a direct shot to goal after receiving a pass from classmate Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) (27').
- Halfway through the third quarter, the Ospreys were able to tip in a pass, leaving the score at 2-1 for the remainder of the contest (39').
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Seniors Kerianne Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), Nicole Goitiandia (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield), Gillian Grahame (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), Alexis Land (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.), Corinne Lenzinger (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees), Michaela Meillier (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross), Brianna Reyes (Selden, N.Y./Newfield), and Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) were honored for their dedication to the WP field hockey program as this was their last regular season home game.
- Sophomore goalie Tara Weniger (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) posted five saves for the second game in a row.
