Field Hockey Bested by Visiting No. 2 The College of New Jersey, 4-0

The Pioneers Held the Lions to Two Scoreless Quarters

WAYNE, N.J. – Although the score remained 0-0 until four minutes into the second quarter, the William Paterson field hockey team (7-6, 0-2 NJAC) dropped a 4-0 conference decision against No. 2 The College of New Jersey (11-0, 2-0 NJAC) Oct. 12.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Pioneer defense, including sophomore goalie Tara Weniger (Somerset, N.J./Franklin), denied all shots to goal during the first quarter of the game.
  • The Lions notched a trio of goals in the second quarter.  The scoring began in the 19th minute with a deflected pass into the goal cage.
  • The College of New Jersey tallied another goal soon after in the 23rd minute, followed by a successful rebound off of the goalie's pads 58 seconds later.
  • The Pioneers held the Lions to a scoreless third quarter, but the Lions collected one more goal in the 49th minute to complete the scoring, 4-0.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Weniger posted eight saves.
