Second Half Run Gives Women's Basketball a 53-46 Road Win at Stockton

Pioneers remain tied for 5th in NJAC standings

GALLOWAY, N.J. – Senior guard Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) scored a team-high 24 points and sophomore Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds as William Paterson women's basketball (11-9, 7-6 NJAC) outscored Stockton (5-15, 2-11 NJAC) 18-10 in the final quarter to come away with a 53-46 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road victory Jan. 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Defense set the tone for WP in the opening quarter, as the Pioneers forced eight Osprey turnovers and took a slim 13-10 lead after 10 minutes. In the second, a 3-for-16 (.188) shooting performance by William Paterson allowed Stockton to erase a five-point deficit as the teams entered the break deadlocked at 21-21.
  • Back-and-forth action highlighted the third quarter as both teams traded baskets with the Ospreys clinching to a 36-35 advantage entering the final period. Beginning with Alisa Giordano's (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) three-pointer, WP opened the fourth on a 7-0 run and led 42-36 with 4:34 remaining. Stockton would make it a one-possession game (47-44) with 1:58 left, but WP would knock down six straight from the charity stripe to come away with the conference victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Rovito posted her fourth 20+ point scoring output of the season, while CeCe Green (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) and Giordano finished with eight and seven points, respectively.
  • Brooks has now recorded double digit rebounds in back-to-back games
  • With the win, WP remains in a tie for fifth-place in the NJAC standings with Rutgers-Camden.

UP NEXT:
  • The Pioneers return home on Wednesday, Jan. 30, for a 6:00 p.m. tip off against Rutgers-Newark.
