Nine Different Pioneers Get on the Scoresheet as Men’s Soccer Cruises in Home Opener, 6-1

WP Stays Unbeaten with Victory Against York (N.Y.)

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – Nine different Pioneers registered at least a point as the William Paterson men's soccer team (4-0-1) cruised to a 6-1 home-opener victory Sept. 12 against York, N.Y. (1-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman midfielder Ryan Goggins (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) opened the scoring in the fifth minute, heading in senior midfielder Dylan Fogerty's (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) corner kick at the far post for his first career points.
  • Senior forward/midfielder Jordan Saling (Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) threaded a through ball up the middle for a streaking Brandon Harley (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken), and the senior forward converted the 1v1 chance for a 2-0 edge at the 12:58 mark.
  • Freshman back/midfielder Parker Solowey (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) got onto the scoresheet for the first time, heading Fogerty's corner kick back across the grain and into the back of the net for a 3-0 score in the 16th minute.
  • Freshman back/midfielder Chris Laccetti (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) made it a 4-0 margin in the 28th minute when he cleaned up a deflection off a corner kick play.
  • Just 2:31 later, sophomore midfielder Johan Arango-Ramirez (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) sent a quick ball from the right end line to the center of the box and freshman forward Ian Calcaterra (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) chipped it inside the near post. The assist marked the first career point for Arango-Ramirez.
  • Junior forward Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) finished off the scoring, dodging defenders and creating space on the right side before pulling the ball back and ripping a shot off the inside of the right post to make it a 6-1 lead in the 63rd minute.
  • York scored its lone goal of the game early in the second half when Rohan Burrell escaped a tie-up with the defender and beat the charging Pioneer goalkeeper at the 48:13 mark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior goalkeeper Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) started and finished in goal, making two saves during 51:40 of action.
  • Freshman Gabriel Reyes (Paterson, N.J./Ramstein) played his first college minutes, manning the goal for nearly 39 shutout minutes.
  • Three Pioneers scored goals during their first collegiate action – Goggins, Laccetti and Calcaterra.
  • WP is 7-0-1 during its last eight home openers.
