Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Keuka in Overtime, 5-4

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Four different Pioneer found the back of the net, however, the William Paterson women's soccer team (0-2) fell to Keuka College (1-0) in overtime 5-4 in the second round of the Erinn K. Bozeman Cup.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Freshman midfielder Natasha Magee (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) scored her first collegiate goal when headed an Ashley Cozzi (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) cross to the far post in the 26th minute.
  • Fellow freshman Megan Ponce (Clifton, N.J./Paramus Catholic ) leveled the score at 2-2 in the 79th minute as she headed home Lorraine Moffitt's (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) corner kick. 
  • Less than two minutes later, sophomore forward Corrine Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) took a through ball from Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) and pushed it pass the Keuka keeper to give WP a 3-2 advantage.
  • Adelman contributed her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute with a high touch that beat the outstretched goalie.
  • Keuka rallied with scores in the 85th and 87th minute before claiming victory with just seconds remaining in the extra period.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Sophomore goalkeeper Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) tallied seven saves for WP.
 
The Pioneers held an 18-16 advantage in shots and a 15-13 lead in shots on goal. WP also had twice as many corners as Keuka, 6-3.
 
Adelman led all players with a total of six shots with all attempts on net.
 
The last time WP started a season 0-2, in 2010, they advanced to the NCAA tournament.
