PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Behind a pair of second-half strikes, the William Paterson men's soccer team (1-0) opened its 2018 campaign with a 2-1 victory at Plattsburgh State (0-1) Aug. 31 in the first round of the Best Western Plus Cardinal Classic.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Junior forward
Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) figured into both Pioneer goals, the first a header of a
Cameron Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./Saint John Vianney) pass during the 49th minute. Brant-Sharp then delivered a ball that senior forward/midfielder
Jordan Saling (Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) finished for an insurance goal in the 75th minute.
A penalty kick awarded at the 88:09 mark allowed the Cardinals to get on the scoreboard late in the contest.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Junior goalkeeper
Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) registered four saves while not allowing a goal in the run of play.
WP won its season opener for the third time in a four-year span, and the fifth time in seven seasons.
