Big Inning Costs Baseball Against Ramapo, 10-1

WAYNE, N.J. – One big inning by visiting Ramapo (21-11, 6-5 NJAC) cost the William Paterson baseball team (19-10, 6-5 NJAC), 10-1, April 20.
 
The Roadrunners rang up eight runs on six hits, a hit by pitch, three walks, a sacrifice fly, one error and a passed ball during the top of the third inning.
 
Ramapo added another in the fourth on an error and Vincenzo Sita RBI-double.
 
The Pioneers broke through during the home half of the fourth when sophomore third baseman Carlos Perez (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) led off with a double down the right-field line, advanced to third thanks to a one-out Greg Cuevas (West New York, N.J./St. Mary (Rutherford)) groundout, and scored via a wild pitch.
 
The Roadrunners made it a 10-1 score in the fifth with a pair of base hits and a groundout.
 
Perez, freshman left fielder Francis Deane (Dumont, N.J./Dumont), senior catcher Jorge Solodkin (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and junior first baseman Shane Adams (Cape May, N.J./Cape May Tech) accounted for WP's hits.
 
Junior starter Corey Martinez (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional) surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and two walks, striking out one during 2.2 innings of work (5-2). Sophomore Kyle Weiner (Wyckoff, N.J./Bergen Catholic) went 2.1 innings, allowing four hits, two runs (one earned) and a walk, while junior Ryan Tomao (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) tossed the final 4.0 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and three walks while posting three strikeouts.
 
Junior catcher Nick Camilleri paced Ramapo with a 3-for-4 effort, contributing a double, two RBI and a run scored. Senior Jerry D'Andrea scattered one run and three hits over 7.0 innings, striking out nine while walking four (5-3).
 
William Paterson will play its final home doubleheader of the season Saturday, April 21, at 11:30 a.m. against Stockton.
