Jacketti, Rovito Pace Women's Basketball to a 69-54 Decision over Bridgewater State

Giordano Named to All-Tournament Team

DANBURY, Conn. – Sophomore forward Ema Jacketti (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) recorded her first career double-double and Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) led all scorers with 19 points as the William Paterson women's basketball team (6-7) handed Bridgewater State (3-8) a 69-54 defeat in the consolation game of the Western Connecticut State Tournament Dec. 30.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Trailing 13-11 after the first stanza, WP got 11 second-quarter points from senior guard Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and outscored the Bears 23-16 en route to a 34-29 halftime lead.
  • The Pioneers' momentum carried over into the second half as Rovito's three-pointer capped off an 11-3 run that gave WP a 45-32 advantage at the 7:19 mark. Bridgewater State struggled to contain Jacketti and Rovito as the tandem combined for 11 fourth quarter tallies as the Pioneers cruised to a 69-54 triumph.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • WP held a 50-34 rebounding advantage, including a 22-8 margin on the offensive glass which led to 19 second chance points.
  • William Paterson also dominated in the paint, outscoring Bridgewater State 32-8.
  • The Pioneer defense stymied the Bears all afternoon as Bridgewater State shot just 14-of-49 (.286) from the floor.
  • Giordano, who averaged 17.5 PPG over the weekend, was named to the all-tournament team following the final on Sunday.
