WAYNE, N.J.. – Seniors CeCe Green (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) and Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) combined for 23 points, but the William Paterson women's basketball team (0-1) couldn't find its shooting rhythm and fell to the College of Staten Island (3-0) 71-56 Nov. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Trailing 36-28 at intermission, a pair of Vianca Soriano (New Milford, N.J./New Milford) free throws made it a two-possession game minutes into the second half. However, the Dolphins would outscore the Pioneers 25-8 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead into the final period. WP would make a run late in the game, but clutch shooting by CSI preserved the 71-56 victory.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Green chipped in a team-high 12 points on 6-10 (.500) shooting from the field, while Rovito tallied 11 to go along with four assists. Defensively, Rovito and Carolyn each pulled down six rebounds and Green registered two blocks.
• Staten Island shot 79.4% (27-34) from the charity stripe as compared to just 54.2% (13-24) for William Paterson.

• WP squares off against Delaware Valley University in the opening game of the Scotty Wood Tournament Friday, Nov. 16 in Allentown, Pa.
