Volleyball Falls in NJAC Tournament Quarterfinals at Kean

Sixth-Seeded Pioneers Drop 3-0 Decision to Third-Seeded Cougars

UNION, N.J. – The sixth-seeded William Paterson volleyball team (22-5, 4-4 NJAC) dropped its New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament quarterfinals contest 3-0 at third-seeded Kean (17-15, 6-2 NJAC) Oct. 30.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The defending champion Cougars hit .302 (20 kills, seven errors, 43 attempts) during a 25-16 victory in the opening frame.
  • Kean carried the momentum into the second stanza, racing out to a 9-4 advantage, forcing a WP timeout. After the break, the Cougars took 13 of the next 15 points and cruised to a 25-8 decision.
  • Deadlocked at 14-14 midway through the third set, Kean went on an 11-3 run to close out the match with a 25-17 triumph.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Outside hitter Alyson Toman (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) hit .429 (six kills, zero errors, 14 attempts) to lead the attack. It marked the 15th time this season that the junior has registered a hitting percentage over .400. Senior Amanda Lembo (North Haledon, N.J./DePaul Catholic) recorded six kills, while Christine Griffith (Upper Saddle River, N.J./Northern Highlands Regional) added three to go along with a pair of service aces. 
  • Senior Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) closed out her collegiate career by dishing out 18 assists as well as collecting a team-high seven digs.
  • At the net, Chelliah Phillips (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) collected two blocks.
