Men’s Soccer Falls in Back-and-Forth Senior Night Affair, 3-2 in Overtime

Pioneers Felled by Ramapo, Will Face Rutgers-Camden in NJAC Tournament

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (11-6-1, 4-5 NJAC) took the lead in the 86th minute, but Ramapo (14-2-2, 6-2-1 NJAC) rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory Oct. 24 as WP celebrated Senior Night at Pioneer Soccer Park. Sixth-seeded William Paterson will now travel to third-seeded Rutgers-Camden (13-4-2, 6-2-1 NJAC) for the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament Saturday, Oct. 27, at 12:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior forward Joseph Fala received a pass in the middle of the box from senior Jorge Castro and spun a shot off the inside of the right post for a 1-0 Roadrunner lead in the eighth minute.
  • A takeaway from a Ramapo back sent the ball out wide to junior midfielder Dromo Quaye (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield). He crossed it to classmate Jordan Saling (Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic), who found sophomore Christopher Fuentes (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) for a quick shot and a 1-1 score at the 27:12 mark.
  • The Pioneers took their first lead with 4:38 remaining thanks to a ball played in by junior back Andre Michalec (Hamilton Twp., N.J./Steinert) that Quaye converted from the right side of the box.
  • A long free kick to the far post led to a Chris Nash game-tying goal 95 seconds later.
  • Fala notched the game winner 2:55 into overtime, running on to the end of a long cross and finding the right side of the frame from the left side of the field.
