Women’s Soccer Suffers 2-0 Senior Night Setback

Pioneers Drop Conference Clash with Rutgers-Camden

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (6-10, 2-6 NJAC) suffered a 2-0 Senior Night setback against Rutgers-Camden (8-6-2, 5-1-2 NJAC) Oct. 20.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior midfielder Melissa Peel fed a ball from the middle toward the right side of the box and freshman back Kayla de Guzman ran onto it for a 1v1 opportunity she finished in the 23rd minute.
  • The Scarlet Raptors added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when freshman Ava Pizzaro got on the end of a Sarah Zuzulock corner kick.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Sophomore Erica Hickey (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) collected four saves for WP.
  • Prior to the match, William Paterson honored senior forward/back Carla LaRocca (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick).
  • The Pioneers had their best opportunity of the night with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half, but a Scarlet Raptor back was able to get in the way of Corrine Bowe's (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) shot off a scramble in the box following a WP corner kick.
  • With one match yet to be completed tonight, the Pioneers (six points) are tied for seventh in the NJAC standings with one regular-season match remaining. The top six teams will qualify for the NJAC Tournament that begins Oct. 27.
