Despite Loss at Rutgers-Camden, Men’s Soccer Secures NJAC Tournament Bid

Pioneers Drop 3-1 Decision to Scarlet Raptors

CAMDEN, N.J. – Despite a 3-1 loss at Rutgers-Camden (12-4-2, 5-2-1 NJAC) Oct. 20, the William Paterson men's soccer team (11-5-1, 4-4 NJAC) secured a spot in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Skyler Diggs handed the Scarlet Raptors an early 1-0 edge with a header off a Marcial Islas-Marroquin cross in the seventh minute.
  • Junior Kyle Adams (Bordentown, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) chipped in senior Brandon Harley's (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) pass up the middle, leveling the score at 1-1 at the 39:27 mark.
  • Junior Trenton Hall pushed Rutgers-Camden ahead by a 2-1 count when he headed in a Zach Fox kick in the 84th minute, and Diggs tacked on an insurance goal five minutes later when he finished a through ball from freshman Michael Funaro.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Junior Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) made two saves for WP.
  • With one conference match remaining, the Pioneers (12 points) can finish no worse than sixth in the league rankings, thanks to a head-to-head 4-3 double-overtime win Oct. 10  against Rutgers-Newark (3-5, nine points). The top six teams qualify for the NJAC Tournament that begins Oct. 27.
