Field Hockey Earns a Double Digit Victory at Wightman Stadium

The Pioneers Defeated Albertus Magnus 12-0

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (7-9, 1-4 NJAC) defeated Albertus Magnus (0-11, 0-0 GNAC) in a 12-0 triumph at Wightman Stadium on Oct. 19.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior midfielder Carly Miceli (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) recorded three goals, two before halftime and one in the 49th minute.
  • Freshman midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township) tallied two successful shots on goal, one in the third minute and another shortly after in the 11th minute.
  • Sophomore forward Sara Haller (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) also notched a pair of goals, her first in the 12th minute and the second in the 25th minute.
  • Junior forward Michaela Meillier (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) took a rebound off of the goalie's pads and shot it at the cage for her goal in the ninth minute.
  •  Junior forward Gillian Grahame (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) shot from the stroke mark to contribute a goal in the 14th minute.
  • Freshman forward Abigail Viola (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) utilized an assist from sophomore midfielder Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional) to find the back of the cage in the middle of the first half.   
  • Kim Whelan (Runnemede, N.J./Triton Regional) took a successful shot on goal in the 56th minute.  The freshman back received some help from freshman back Victoria Perlroth (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley).
  • Junior midfielder Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) ended the scoring by collecting her third goal of the season in the 66th minute.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Super, Freas-Papa and Perlroth each contributed assists.
  • Senior Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional), freshman Tara Weniger (Somerset, N.J./Franklin), and junior Kerianne Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) each earned goalie minutes.
  • The Pioneers did not allow the Falcons to take any corners.
