WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (6-9, 1-4 NJAC) kept the game scoreless for the first half, but fell to No. 7 Montclair State (15-1, 5-0 NJAC), 2-0, in the home NJAC contest on Oct. 17.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite the Red Hawks taking 16 shots in the first half, the game was scoreless at halftime in part due to senior goalie Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) saving eight shots on goal.
- The Red Hawks found the back of the cage twice in the second half, once in the 48th minute and another in the last minute of play.
- Junior back Alexis Land (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Twp.) contributed to the strong defense by recording two defensive saves.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Rickerhauser notched a career high of 13 stops.
- Freshman midfielder Megan Hoopes (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township) took a shot on goal in the second half to keep the game competitive.
