Fuentes Strikes Twice, Men’s Soccer Notches 4-2 Victory at New Paltz

Saling, Allen Add Penalty Kicks for Pioneers

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Sophomore Christopher Fuentes (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Regional) found the back of the net twice during the match's first 25 minutes, allowing the William Paterson men's soccer team (11-4-1) to cruise to a 4-2 non-conference victory at New Paltz (10-5-1) Oct. 16.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior forward Keysean Brant-Sharp's (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) cross found Fuentes at the near post, and he finished at the 2:03 mark for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 edge.
  • Brant-Sharp laid the ball off for Fuentes at the top of the box less than 23 minutes later, and the resulting goal made it a 2-0 Pioneer advantage.
  • Senior forward/midfielder Jordan Saling (Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) converted a penalty kick in the 39th minute (3-0), and junior midfielder Cameron Allen (Old Bridge, N.J./Saint John Vianney) did the same in the 64th minute (4-1).
  • The Hawks got on the scoreboard at the 57:55 mark thanks to a Ryan Martinez breakaway, and added another goal in the 79th minute when Coltan Goodwine struck from 35 yards away.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman Gabriel Reyes (Paterson, N.J./Ramstein) collected three saves for WP.
  • The win was the fourth straight for William Paterson.
  • Brant-Sharp now has four assists, ranking one behind Allen (five) for the team lead.
  • The Pioneers now have six players with multiple goals this season: Allen (seven), Harley (six), Brant-Sharp (four), Saling (four), Dromo Quaye (North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) (four) and Fuentes (three).
