Men's Swimming and Diving Records a Successful Opening Meet, Defeating SUNY-Delhi

Pioneers Register 79-66 Home Victory

Junior Jimmy Sharkey was an individual double winner, taking the 500 (5:26.90) and 1,000 (11:10.18) frees.

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (1-0) opened its season with a 79-66 victory against SUNY-Delhi (0-1) Oct. 13 at Wightman Pool.

TOP PERFORMERS:

Junior Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) was a double winner in the 1,000 free with a time of 11:10.18, and the 500 free with a time of 5:26.90.
Senior Drew Macchia (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) also posted two individual wins, finishing first in the 50 (23.42) and 100 (51.50) frees.
Sophomore Vincent Giallombardo (Cottage Grove, Wisc./Monona Grove) touched the wall in 2:14.37 to dominate the 200 IM.
Junior Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.), sophomore Thomas Haughey (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) and sophomore Jonathan Vela (Prospect Park, N.J./Passaic County Tech) also earned victories in the 200 free (1:57.91), 100 back (1:06.18) and 100 fly (1:02.51), respectively.
The Pioneers won both relays, with Haughey, Terrence Hopkins (Landing, N.J./Roxbury), Vela and Ryan Achyuthuni (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) taking the 200 medley (1:56.72), and Logue, Macchia, Sharkey and Giallombardo finishing first in the 200 free (1:39.31).
