Harley Provides the Game Winner for Men’s Soccer at Kean, 1-0

Pioneers Move into Third Place in NJAC Race

UNION, N.J. – Senior forward Brandon Harley (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) provided the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute to help the William Paterson men's soccer team (10-4-1, 4-3 NJAC) move into third place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings with a 1-0 victory at Kean (5-6-3, 1-4-1 NJAC) Oct. 13.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A Cougar defender played a ball slowly back towards his own goal and Harley sprinted to pounce on it. He and Kean keeper Derek Phells arrived almost simultaneously and Harley got enough of the ball to send it into the back of the empty net at the 72:44 mark.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Freshman Gabriel Reyes (Paterson, N.J./Ramstein) made five saves for the WP shutout.
  • With one match yet to be played Saturday night, the Pioneers (12 points) sit third in the league rankings, behind Montclair State (6-0-1, 19) and Rutgers-Camden (4-1-1, 13) and ahead of Stockton (3-2-2, 11) and Ramapo (3-2-1, 10). The top six teams will qualify for the NJAC Tournament that begins Oct. 27.

UP NEXT:
  • William Paterson travels to New Paltz Tuesday, Oct. 16, for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match.
