MONTCLAIR, N.J.. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving program (12-2, 0-2 NJAC) suffered its first loss since Nov. 10 of 2017, snapping a seven-meet winning streak as it fell at Montclair State (6-3, 2-2 NJAC), 174-116, Jan. 27.
Despite the loss, senior
Anthony Taboadela (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) continued to have an impressive final campaign in Wayne, posting three wins to improve his single-season individual victory total to 39 on the year. Taboadela's trio of first-place times came behind three strong showings as he secured the 100 back (54.84), 200 back (2:00.45) and 200 IM (2:00.65).
The reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference Diver of the Week, junior
William Barrett (Pompton Lakes, N.J. /Pompton Lakes ) gave WP two wins, posting top scores in the one-meter required (150.45) and one-meter optional (196.12) dives.
Sophomore distance swimmer
Jimmy Sharkey (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) chipped in as a single winner, touching the wall in the 500 free at a mark of 5:32.74. Also securing points was sophomore
Eamon Logue (Vernon, N.J./Vernon Twp.) who swam in four events, three individual, and notched nine tallies in individual events. The second-year swimmer garnered three points with a third-place time in the 50 free (23.94) and recorded a stellar second-place clip in the 100 free (51.98).
Another strong personal- best time came from senior
Sammuel Melendez (West Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland), whose 2:05.05 pace in the 200 fly set a new personal record.
The Pioneers take their 12-2 overall record to Ramapo for a road matchup with the Roadrunners (2-4, 0-3 NJAC) Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 6:00 p.m.
