CAMDEN, N.J. – Tied at 44-44 heading into the fourth quarter, senior
Tori Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) scored nine of her game-high 20 points during the final period to help lead the William Paterson women's basketball team (9-7, 6-3 NJAC) to a 60-55 victory at Rutgers-Camden (8-7, 5-4 NJAC) Jan. 13.
The Pioneers carried a 35-21 advantage into the halftime break, but the Scarlet Raptors scored 23 of the third quarter's 32 points to forge a 44-44 deadlock. Junior guard Gabby Greene's three-pointer made it a 51-51 game with 4:50 left, but two free throws apiece from junior guard
Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) and Woetzel (55-51, 3:16), and four straight tallies later by Woetzel (59-53, 1:16) allowed WP to secure the victory.
Woetzel was 6-for-12 (.500) from the field and 8-for-10 (.800) from the line for her fifth straight double-digit scoring effort. She added five rebounds, while freshman guard
Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) finished with 11 tallies, six boards and three steals. Junior guard
Ashley Castillo (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) chipped in nine points and five rebounds from off the bench.
The Pioneers shot 48.0 (12-25) percent from the field during the first half, using a Rovito layup at the buzzer for a 14-point edge at the break.
Senior forward/center Michelle Obasi paced Rutgers-Camden with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Greene contributed 10 tallies.
