Women’s Soccer Dominates Tempo in 4-0 Win at Centenary

Pioneers outshoot Cyclones, 25-4

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.  – The Pioneers (2-1) were in control all match, outshooting Centenary (2-1) 25-4 en route to a 4-0 victory Sept. 6.

Taking advantage of a hand ball, senior back Ellie Palmer (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) hooked a free kick into the back of the net from 35 yards out in the 28th minute, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage that they would never relinquish.

WP added some cushion heading into the half when freshman forward Corrine Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) gathered a blocked shot off senior goalkeeper Kaitlin Marold and returned it into the goal for a 2-0 advantage in the 45h minute.

The Pioneers capitalized once more on a Cyclones defensive miscue as sophomore midfielder Lorraine Moffitt (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) swept in on a mishandled ball and tucked her shot inside the right post for a 3-0 upperhand in the 77th minute.

Sophomore forward Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) put the period on the Pioneers' scoring in the 86th minute by finding open space and beating the keeper on a breakaway for the 4-0 lead.

Senior Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) was only tested two times on the day, making two saves for her first shutout of the season. The Pioneers on the other hand put 17 shots on goal, with Marold making four saves and sophomore goalkeeper Justine Stefura making seven stops in 45 minutes of action.

Women's soccer will play its home opener Saturday, Sept. 9, when it hosts FDU-Florham at 12:00 p.m.
