WAYNE, N.J. – Freshman midfielder
Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional) collected her first career goal but it wasn't enough as William Paterson (2-6, 0-1 NJAC) suffered a 3-1 loss against Stockton (6-2, 1-0 NJAC) Sept. 22 during the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) field hockey opener for both schools.
The Ospreys opened the scoring at the 8:44 mark when a turnover and through-ball allowed freshman forward Britney Stein to redirect the ball from the five-yard mark.
Stockton doubled its advantage two minutes later after a pair of crosses on a penalty corner deflected to the middle of the circle and senior back Alexa Massa cleaned up the loose ball from eight yards out.
Senior forward/midfielder Leah Davies made it a 3-0 margin in the 56th minute when she dribbled right towards the goal and fired to the left post.
Sophomore forward
Michaela Meillier (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Holy Cross) drilled a shot from the left wing during a WP penalty corner and Freas-Papa was able to jump on the rebound and poke it home for the Pioneers at the 61:27 mark.
WP junior
Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) and Stockton sophomore Emily Gilligan each finished with five saves.
William Paterson will continue its three-game homestand Wednesday, Sept. 27, against Union at 7:00 p.m.
