MADISON, N.J. – The William Paterson field hockey team (0-1) suffered a 3-0 loss during its season opener Sept. 1 at FDU-Florham (1-0).
The Devils opened the scoring when senior forward/midfielder Gabby Allen connected on a Chrissy Penney pass 3:46 into the contest. FDU-Florham doubled its advantage 2:05 into the second half thanks to a Brooke Sherwin unassisted strike on a breakaway, and she made it a 3-0 margin in the 48th minute off an assist from senior forward Marissa Kowalskie.
Junior
Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) notched six saves for the Pioneers, and sophomore
Kerianne Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) was not forced to make a stop while playing the final 5:16. Junior Samantha Rubin had two saves for the Devils.
William Paterson will return to action Sunday, Sept. 3, at Western Connecticut at 1:00 p.m.
