Game One
The Roadrunners snapped WP's 15-game win streak and handed the Pioneers their first conference loss with an 8-0, five-inning decision.
A single, error and two-run Nicole Mahoney double handed Ramapo a 2-0 edge during the top of the first inning.
A pair of base hits sandwiched a walk in the top of the third, and senior left fielder Grace Brennan cleared the bags with a double to center field. Junior right fielder Carly Vadinsky later hit a popup that was dropped, allowing her to reach first and Brennan to touch home. Vadinsky was called out for removing her helmet, but not before the run scored, making it a 6-0 margin.
Four consecutive singles, the last by Mahoney, added two more Roadrunner scores in the fourth.
Freshman designated player
Vanessa Archibold (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook), junior left fielder
Kara Molnar (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and senior first baseman
Salina Pellios (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) each had a hit for WP.
Senior
Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J./Cedar Grove) surrendered five runs (four earned), five hits and two walks, striking out two in 2.1 innings before being lifted due to an injury (12-2). Freshman
Andee Lupica (Maywood, N.J./Immaculate Conception) gave up four hits and three runs during 0.2 inning of work, and classmate
Alex Grubiak (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) tossed 2.0 innings of one-hit relief.
Mahoney was 3-for-3 with a double, four RBI and a run scored for Ramapo. Sophomore Erin Fitzsimmons struck out one and walked one in 5.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits (8-3).
Game Two
Three late runs allowed the Roadrunners to finish the day with a 3-0 victory.
Neither team was able to manufacture a run until the top of the sixth inning, when Ramapo pushed across a pair. Mahoney opened the frame with a single through the left side, was sacrificed to second and crossed home when junior pitcher Christina Brizek doubled to left. Brennan's base hit led to a Sisi Machinski RBI-single up the middle and a 2-0 score.
The Roadrunners added one more in the seventh thanks to two singles and a Mahoney double to center field.
Senior shortstop
Rachel Wasilak (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) went 2-for-3 at the plate and stole a base.
Senior
Allison Podmajersky (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) fell to 6-6 with 10 hits, three runs and four walks allowed, posting three strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
Machinski, Brennan and Mahoney each had two hits for Ramapo. Brizek (6-2) pitched 7.0 scoreless innings, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out two.
William Paterson will host DeSales Thursday, April 20, for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
