BROOKLYN, N.Y. – William Paterson women's swimming and diving was the epitome of balance at Brooklyn on Dec. 9, getting four double-winning performances en route to a 103-83 win against the Bulldogs (3-4), taking the Pioneers' record to 8-1 as the team closed out the 2017 calendar year.
The four-headed group of double winners included freshman
Daisey Ferraiuolo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.), sophomore
Ashley Lawler (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional), junior
Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) and freshman
Iris Santos (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech). Ferraiuolo notched a pair of personal-best times to claim the 1,000 free (12:47.01) and 500 free (6:05.88), Lawler bested the competition in the one-meter (178.50) and three-meter (184.50) dives, and Reynolds took the 50 free (26.76) and nearly set a season-best with her first-place time in the 100 back (1:03.35). Santos' two wins came in the 200 IM (2:37.18) and 100 free (59.95), the rookie's inaugural multi-event performance.
A pair of WP sophomores accounted for two more Pioneer victories, and two more personal-best clips. Sophomore
Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) touched the wall first to set a season best and win the 100 fly (1:05.05), while
Mariah Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) swam a 1:16.86 to secure the 100 breast.
Boyton and Jenkins would be found in the 200 medley relay-winning quartet (2:07.11) that also included senior
Katelyn Diva (North Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic) and freshman Vespe. The Pioneers notched another relay win later in the meet, taking the 200 free relay (1:52.49) thanks to Santos, Ferraiuolo, sophomore
Janice Costa (Clifton, N.J./Bergen Arts and Science) and Reynolds, who posted the fastest split (26.46).
A series of second-place points were also added on the afternoon. Jenkins took runner-up in the 200 IM (2:44.81), Costa placed second in the 100 back (1:14.34), junior
Christianne Joyce Pineda (Haskell, N.J./Hackensack) brought home eight points through the 50 free (29.12) and 100 fly (1:07.86), and freshman distance swimmer
Sarah Myers (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) posted two season-best times with second-place showings in the 1,000 free (14:56.04) and 500 free (7:15.26).
WP will head into 2018 carrying an 8-1 record as it won't compete again until it hosts Lehman for Senior Day Saturday, Jan. 13., at 1:00 p.m. The Pioneers will travel to Trinidad for the team's annual winter break training trip, with the departure date set for Jan. 3.
