Six Individual Winners Boost Women’s Swimming and Diving Past Staten Island, 103-73

Lawler and Jenkins Lead the Way as Double Winners, Pioneers Win Fourth Straight

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J.  –  Thanks to a well-rounded performance from the William Paterson women's swimming and diving team, the Pioneers (4-0) were propelled by the Staten Island Dolphins (1-3) in a 103-73 win, giving WP its fourth-straight victory against CSI and their fourth triumph in as many chances to open the 2017-18 campaign.

WP had six different individual winners, led by a pair of sophomores, Ashley Lawler (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Mariah Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour). Lawler, the reigning New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Diver of the Week, won the one-meter (190.30) and three-meter (189.40) dives, while Jenkins provided her two wins in the 200 IM (2:44.51) and 100 breast (1:19.85). Jenkins would also contribute to WP's meet-opening victory in the 200 medley relay (2:13.35), notching a 36.36 in her split as the second swimmer in the event. She was joined by senior Katelyn Diva (North Haledon, N.J./Paramus Catholic), sophomore Anny Boyton and freshman Daisey Ferraiuolo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.).

Boyton and Ferraiuolo also added individual wins to their evenings. Boyton garnered nine points in the 100 fly (1:07.42) while the freshman Ferraiuolo won her first-career event, swimming the fastest time of five swimmers to bring home the 200 free (2:18.49).

Also earning single wins were a pair of WP juniors, Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Casey Murphy (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional). Reynolds posted her best regular season time to win the 100 back (1:04.50), while Murphy won the 500 free (5:55.62) by a large margin. Reynolds also gave WP four points with a second-place time in the 50 free, missing out on her eighth individual win of the season by the slimmest of margins (.01 second), being out-touched by CSI senior Ewa Wojciechowska.

Ferraiuolo wasn't the only freshman to have a notable meet Tuesday, as classmate Kelsey Vespe (Mt. Ephraim, N.J./Audubon) broke the one-minute barrier in the 100 free (59.41) with a personal-best time and second-place finish.

WP will be back at Wightman Pool in its next meet when it hosts No. 26 Rowan (1-2, 0-0 NJAC) in the Pioneers' New Jersey Athletic Conference opener Friday, Nov. 10, at 5:00 p.m.
