Kean’s Two Unanswered Goals Snap Women’s Soccer’s Four-Match Winning Streak

Pioneers Fall, 2-1, Moffitt Scores Fourth Goal of Season on Penalty Kick

UNION, N.J.  – Sophomore midfielder Lorraine Moffitt (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) gave women's soccer the 1-0 lead by converting a penalty kick in the 17th minute, but Kean responded with two unanswered goals, scoring in the 43rd and 66th minute as the Cougars (9-4, 3-2 NJAC) snapped the Pioneers' (8-5, 2-3 NJAC) four-match winning streak, Oct. 7.

Following a Kean foul in the box, Moffitt was called upon to handle the penalty kick, answering the call with her second penalty kick score in three games and her fourth goal of the season.

Over the next 26 minutes Kean kept the ball on the WP end of the field, outshooting the Pioneers 7-0 before Kean junior midfielder Sabrina Sirni knotted up the game at 1-1 in the 43rd minute. Freshman forward Adrianna Mouzakis was credited with the assist, creating a breakaway chance for Sirni.

The Pioneers came out of halftime aggressive, as senior midfielder Lauren McHugh (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and sophomore forward Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) put successive shots up during the 60th minute, although Kean would score the fateful goal in the 66th minute. Cougars senior forward Kaitlyn Pallitto was on the helping end of a give-and-go up the middle, setting up junior forward Sabrina Pascarella for the goal.

WP wouldn't be able to conjure up another shot until senior back Diana Perez (Ocean Twp., N.J./Ocean Twp.) sailed an attempt high of the mark in the 90th minute. Adelman was held scoreless for the first time in four games, although she came very close to continuing the streak after clanging a shot off the post in the 15th minute.

Pioneers senior goalkeeper Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made five saves and her counterpart, sophomore Casey McDonnell, made two saves for Kean.

The women's soccer team will host Montclair State (6-3-3, 4-0-1 NJAC) in a Homecoming Week matchup Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 7:00 p.m.
