Kristen Bowe’s Game-Winner Completes Women’s Soccer’s Double-Overtime Comeback Win Against Drew, 2-1

Oliveria Provides Equalizer in 79th Minute To Push Overtime, Adelman Notches Two Assists

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J.  – Down 1-0, senior back Adrianna Oliveria provided the equalizer in the 79th minute to extend the game into overtime before sophomore midfielder Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) recorded the game-winner in the 102nd minute, giving the Pioneers (8-4) the 2-1 victory over Drew (5-6).

Sophomore forward Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had her streak of two goals in each of the last three games broken, although she provided a lift in another area, dishing out two assists in the win. This is the second time that Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) has delivered a double-overtime game-winner, as she did so in a 2-1 double-overtime win vs. New Jersey City Oct. 1, 2016.

Drew junior forward Meghan McDermott nearly put the Rangers ahead in the 18th minute, but senior back Diana Perez (Ocean Twp., N.J./Ocean Twp.) slid to redirect the shot out of harm's way. Drew would go ahead in the 34th minute when freshman forward Sarah Racine broke free after a pass from freshman midfielder Alex Gilgorri, tucking a shot inside the right post for the 1-0 lead.

A series of narrow misses, including two diving saves from freshman goalkeeper Madison Dudziec on shots from freshman forward Danielle Dachowski (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury), 54th minute, and Adelman, 55th minute, kept WP at bay until Oliveira knotted things up in the 79th minute. Adelman flicked a shot from the right wing towards an open goal that was deflected and sent spinning towards the left post. Seeing a defender in pursuit, Oliveira swept in to finish Adelman's shot from just yards off the goal line, tying the match at 1-1.

Momentum in favor of the host Pioneers, WP would out-shoot Drew 6-0 between the remaining minutes of regulation and the first overtime before Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) connected with the game-winner. Adelman set up her classmate with a through ball before Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) split two Drew defenders, and finally Dudziec, with a shot inside the right post.

Despite trailing for nearly 45 minutes, WP out-shot Drew, 24-10, and put 10 shots on goal to the Rangers' two. Adelman also nearly scored when she caromed a shot off the crossbar in the fourth minute. Senior back Lilly Navarra (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) was just inches from being the overtime-hero in the 96th minute when she blistered a shot off the crossbar as well.

Dudziec put up eight saves in the loss, while senior goalkeeper Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) made one save behind a stingy WP backline.

Women's soccer returns to New Jersey Athletic Conference competition when it heads to Kean (8-4, 2-2 NJAC) Saturday, Oct. 7, at 5:00 p.m.
