THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Four double winners helped William Paterson women's swimming and diving secure 10 of 13 events, enabling the Pioneers (3-0) to coast past SUNY Maritime (1-1), 130-90, on the road Oct. 31.
It was the second straight meet that WP had four post two wins. Junior
Casey Murphy (Hardyston, N.J./Wallkill Valley Regional) locked down the distance events, winning the 1,000 free behind a personal best (12:18.20), and the 500 free (5:49.78). Freshman
Iris Santos (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) repeated as a double winner, claiming the 200 free (2:11.36) and 100 free (59.43), and junior
Quinn Reynolds (Delran, N.J./Delran) added two more individual victories to her 2017-18 résume by prevailing in the 100 back (1:04.88) and 50 free (27.13).
In diving, sophomore
Ashley Lawler (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) added two wins, posting high scores in the one-meter (197.50) and three-meter (195.35) dives.
Claiming the 100 fly was sophomore
Anna Boyton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional), posting a time of 1:08.30, her first individual triumph of the season.
Already with a large advantage heading into the 13th and final event of the night, WP brought in 11 more points by winning the 200 free relay on the backs of Murphy, junior Christianne Joyce Pineda, Santos and Reynolds (1:55.01). Murphy recorded the fastest split, finishing in 27.78.
The Pioneers barely missed a first-place finish in the 100 breast when sophomore
Mariah Jenkins (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) came in second (1:19.97), just .26 second off the first-place mark. Freshman
Daisey Ferraiuolo (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) swam a rare combination of sprint and distance events, garnering points with a pair of second-place times. The first-year swimmer finished as a runner-up in the 1,000 free (13:41.29) and 100 free (1:04.85).
