MADISON, N.J. – Senior midfielder
Nicole Andes (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown)' first goal of the season was a timely one, as the William Paterson field hockey team (3-13) fought back from a 2-1 deficit for a 3-2 double-overtime victory at Drew (0-14) Oct. 25.
Sophomore back
Nicole Goitiandia (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) got the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the 20th minute, one-timing a pass from the right side by senior forward
Carly Satter (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
The Rangers got a pair of unassisted goals from Madi Sheetz in a two-minute span, making it a 2-1 Drew advantage 29:28 into the contest.
WP produced the equalizer in the 52nd minute, thanks to a strike from 20 yards out by sophomore forward
Brianna Reyes (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) off an assist from freshman midfielder
Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional).
Ranger goalie Ryann Callaghan came off her line to challenge Freas-Papa 11:20 into the second overtime period, and she got the ball to Andes, who converted to the open cage for the game winner and her second career goal.
Junior goalie
Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) made three saves for the Pioneers, and Callaghan collected 19 stops for Drew as WP owned a 58-11 shot advantage and a 29-3 edge in penalty corners.
William Paterson will finish its season Saturday, Oct. 28, at No. 9 Kean at 4:00 p.m.
