WAYNE, N.J. – A pair of first-half goals were the difference as the William Paterson field hockey team (2-13, 0-5 NJAC) dropped a 2-0 Senior Day decision to Rowan (11-5, 3-2 NJAC) Oct. 21.
Junior forward Nikki Kotelnicki provided the offense, flipping the ball high over the outstretched Pioneer goalie in the 14th minute, and finishing at the left post off a pass from classmate Jenni Panzarino during the 33rd minute of play.
The Pioneers had their best scoring chance during a final-minute penalty corner, but a defensive save kept senior forward
Carly Satter (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional)'s shot out of the cage at the end of the first period.
WP junior goalie
Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) was one shy of her matching her career best with 15 stops, while sophomore forward
Gillian Grahame (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and freshman midfielder
Kristin Freas-Papa (Westville, N.J./Gateway Regional) each added a defensive save. Senior Carly DeMarco had two stops for the Profs.
Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their three seniors: midfielder
Nicole Andes (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), forward
Andrea Mauro (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and Satter.
William Paterson travels to Drew Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7:00 p.m.
