Five Pioneers Score as Women’s Soccer Stymies John Jay, 8-0

Favo, Adelman and McHugh Lead With Two Goals Apiece, WP Outshoots John Jay 37-0

NEW YORK  –  Women's soccer (7-4) won 8-0 against the the John Jay Bloodhounds last year and did so again Oct. 2, dominating every statistical category ,including out-shooting John Jay (5-6) 37-0, en route to an 8-0 victory on the back of goals from five different Pioneers.

Senior midfielder Kristina Favo (Waldwick, N.J./Waldwick) scored WP's first and third goals, capitalizing on crosses in the box from sophomore forward Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) in both the sixth and 30th minute.

Adelman matched her teammate with two goals, finding the back of the net for the Pioneers' second and fourth goal in the 22nd and 40th minutes respectively. Adelman broke free following a pass from sophomore forward Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) for her first score, and later used her speed to set up a breakaway tally. Monday's game with John Jay marks Adelman's fifth-multi goal game of the season and her third-straight match with two goals.

Senior back Lilly Navarra (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) drilled home a 40-yard long ball for her first goal of the season and a 5-0 WP lead in the 43rd minute.

Following the Pioneers' second-consecutive match with five-first half goals, WP added three more for good measure, with goals six and eight coming from senior midfielder Lauren McHugh (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson). McHugh scored on a deflection following a corner kick in the 68th minute and found the back of the net again in the 86th minute, using a helper from freshman back Nicole Brown (Hewitt, N.J./West Milford), giving the freshman her first career point.

Sophomore forward Carla LaRocca (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) joined in on the scoring frenzy with a tally of her own in the 83rd minute, using an opportune follow-up shot off a rebound to give WP a 7-0 lead at the time.

WP's relentless assault also resulted in a 23-0 margin in shots on goal and 17 corner kick opportunities to zero on the part of John Jay.

Senior goalkeepers Liz Murzyn (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) split time in front of the net, earning 45 minutes of scoreless soccer apiece.

The Pioneers host Drew (5-5) in non-conference action Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m.
