Field Hockey Takes Early Lead but Can’t Hold Off Ramapo in Double Overtime

Roadrunners Rally for 2-1 Win Against Pioneers

MAHWAH, N.J. – William Paterson (2-12, 0-4 NJAC) seized a first-half lead at Ramapo (6-9, 1-3 NJAC), but the Roadrunners rallied for a 2-1 double-overtime field hockey victory Oct. 18.

Sophomore back Nicole Goitiandia (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) handed the Pioneers a 1-0 edge with 19:12 remaining in the first half, an unassisted strike for her team-best fifth goal of the season.

That lead held up for nearly 32 minutes, when Ramapo used a Gianna Mouskourie goal to level the score in the 48th minute.

Neither team could find the back of the cage again for the next 45:25, playing to a scoreless draw until there was 7:04 left in the second overtime period when freshman forward Victoria Ewanis connected on a pass from Mouskourie for the game winner.

WP junior goalie Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) came up with six stops and junior forward Erin Sassaman (Belvidere, N.J./Belvidere) chipped in a defensive save. Senior Emily Wisneski collected 12 stops for the Roadrunners.

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Oct. 21, when the Pioneers host Rowan at 1:00 p.m.
