GALLOWAY, N.J. – Stockton scored in the 9th minute and clung to the early advantage until adding an insurance score in the 71st minute as the William Paterson women's soccer team (8-6-1, 2-4-1) couldn't muster a counterattack in a 2-0 loss Oct. 14.
The Ospreys' (6-9-1, 2-5-0) senior forward Mairead McKeary put home the first goal, tapping in a cross from sophomore midfielder Emily Freeze. Freshman forward Salena LeDonne added a cushion to Stockton's lead when she followed up a missed shot off the crossbar for the 2-0 advantage.
The Pioneers threatened with five shots, putting four on goal, two of which came from freshman
Danielle Dachowski (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury), who forced Stockton junior goalkeeper Nicole Pallante to make saves in the 56th and 79th minutes.
Senior back
Jacquelin Nelson (Boonton, N.J./Morris Knolls) put an equalizing opportunity on goal in the 21st minute as did sophomore back
Ashley Cozzi (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) in the 81st minute. Sophomore forward
Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) had her only shot attempt sail wide right in the 67th minute of action.
The Pioneers held the upper hand in corner kick opportunities, although they were not able to capitalize, generating four such chances to just two for Stockton.
In goal for WP was senior goalkeeper
Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury), making five stops for the Pioneers. Pallante made four stops for the Ospreys.
Women's soccer plays its final non-conference match Monday, Oct. 16, at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Brooklyn (3-10-0).
