SCRANTON, PA. – After 100 minutes of scoreless action, the William Paterson field hockey team (2-1) won the shootout at Scranton (1-2) Sept. 7, 3-1. The result is officially listed as a 1-0 WP team victory.
Each team was unsuccessful on its first attempt, but senior midfielder
Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) stepped up and gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The Royals missed again, senior midfielder
Samantha Monzo (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) followed by hitting the back of the cage, and freshman midfielder
Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) later sealed the victory with her made shot.
Scranton enjoyed a 10-5 shots advantage, with each team getting off a total of three during the overtime sessions.
Sophomore
Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) made seven saves for WP, and freshman Tate Ackerman had two stops for the Royals.
The Pioneers will host Moravian Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1:00 p.m.
