Four Pioneers Notch Goals as Field Hockey Blanks Western Connecticut, 5-0

Satter Strikes Twice for WP

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – Four players scored goals, including two from junior forward Carly Satter (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional), as the William Paterson field hockey team (1-1) downed Western Connecticut (1-1) by a 5-0 count Sept. 4 at Wightman Stadium.

Satter got the scoring started in the sixth minute, capitalizing on a loose ball in the circle to make it 1-0 Pioneers.

WP would then put up three goals within a 9:17 stretch, beginning with senior back Jessie Super (Oaklyn, N.J/Collingswood) in the 18th minute, who scored on an assist from senior forward Maureen Gill (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional).

Satter got some help from a Courtney Allen (Woodbine, N.J./Ocean City) pass from the top of the circle for her second goal of the day, making it 3-0 in the Pioneers' favor at the 23:39 mark.

Freshman midfielder Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood) matched her sister's earlier effort, knocking in an unassisted goal from 10 yards out to extend the lead to 4-0 in the 27th minute.

Both teams tightened up defensively in the second half before senior midfielder Meghin Stanton (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) gathered a rebound and sent a pass into the circle for Gill, who found the back of the cage to finish the scoring in the 67th minute.

Sophomore goalie Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) improved to 1-1 on the season, playing the first 58:12 before being relieved by freshman Kerriane Brown (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) as the two combined for the shutout. Senior Kristy Trotta made four stops for the Colonials.

The Pioneers out-shot Western Connecticut 10-3, including a 9-0 advantage in shots on goal.

William Paterson will visit Scranton Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7:00 p.m.
