Men’s Soccer Suffers 6-2 Loss at No. 8/1 Rowan

Cruz Converts Pair of Penalty Kicks for Pioneers

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-2 NJAC) pulled to within one at No. 8/1 Rowan (9-0, 2-0 NJAC), but the Profs surged late for a 6-2 victory Sept. 24.

Junior forward Travis Ward finished a Ryan Logar cross for a 1-0 Prof advantage in the second minute, and Rowan added another goal at the 14:31 mark when sophomore forward Shane Doherty finished to the right corner of the frame off assists from junior midfielder Tyler Logar and sophomore back Zack Swrabrick. Three minutes later, freshman midfielder Pete Hall knocked in a deflection for a 3-0 edge.

WP got on the board in the 59th minute when freshman midfielder Darwin Cruz (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) converted a penalty kick, then he added another successful PK at the 63:15 mark to make it a 3-2 margin.

The Profs stretched their lead back to two goals when Doherty connected on a deflection following a long pass from senior forward Vinny Ignatowicz in the 74th minute, then tacked on an additional score less than a minute later thanks to a Will Sjaastad finish of a Ward shot and rebound.

Ignatowicz drilled a free kick from 18 yards out at the 81:26 mark for the final goal of the night.

Freshman Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) made six saves during 87:27 of action, and classmate Paul Caron (Hardyston, N.J./Sussex County Tech) played the other 2:33 for the Pioneers. Sophomores Kyle Dennis and Kyler White combined for four stops for the Profs.

The Pioneers will host Ramapo Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 7:00 p.m.
