WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's soccer team (5-4-1, 1-2 NJAC) handed Ramapo (7-1-1, 1-1-1 NJAC) its first loss of the season with a 2-0 decision Sept. 28.
The Roadrunners had a quality chance in the 65th minute when freshman forward Joseph Fala's shot nicked off a Pioneer defender and hit the right post, but it was WP that would cash in on an opportunity in the 69th minute. Senior midfielder
Juan Sebastian Londono (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) made an exceptional play on a ball heading over the end line, sending it into the box for freshman midfielder/back
Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick), who drilled a header across the frame to inside the right post
A charging Fala sent a header over the crossbar, just missing the equalizer with 13 minutes remaining, but WP answered by doubling its lead less than nine minutes later. Junior midfielder
JP Gonzales (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) dribbled into the box, twice moving to his left to dodge defenders, and when he had the keeper pulled off his line he fired to the right side of the frame for a 2-0 edge at the 85:42 mark.
Freshman
Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) came up with six big saves for the Pioneer shutout. Junior Ryan Sprague had two stops for the Roadrunners.
William Paterson will play at New Jersey City Saturday, Oct. 1, at 1:00 p.m.
