WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (4-2, 0-1 NJAC) dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Kean (8-2, 1-0 NJAC) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener for both teams Sept. 13.
The Cougars jumped out to a 13-6 first-set lead, but the Pioneers rallied to eventually go ahead by an 18-17 count. Kean won four of the last five points for a 25-21 victory, then ran out to an 18-7 advantage en route to a 25-10 score in the second. The Cougars finished off the sweep with a 25-8 decision during the third set.
Senior outside hitter
Erin Roach (Clark, N.J./Union County Vo-Tech) had eight kills, eight digs and three service aces for WP. Sophomore setter
Kendall Caruso (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) added 17 assists and 10 digs, and junior libero
Julianna Ginefra (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) chipped in seven digs.
Junior outside hitter Joelle Tondi led KU with 16 kills, adding four block assists. Junior setter Kendall Sonico dished out 37 assists, while sophomore libero Juliana Romero collected 13 digs.
William Paterson will travel to Purchase Thursday, Sept. 15, at 7:00 p.m.
