WAYNE, N.J. – Junior forward
Katie Stetser (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) found the back of the cage with the equalizer, but the William Paterson field hockey team (0-1) later fell to visiting FDU-Florham (0-1), 2-1, during the season opener for both schools Sept. 1.
The Devils struck first when freshman midfielder Maggie Sohns finished from just in front of the goal on a 25th-minute penalty corner.
Stetser made it a 1-1 game in the 31st minute, knocking in a pass to the middle by freshman midfielder
Shannon Super (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood).
Sophomore forward/midfielder Brooke Sherwin provided the game winner for FDU-Florham at the 57:36 mark, converting a penalty corner from the top of the circle.
Sophomore
Mallory Rickerhauser (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) made six saves for WP, and sophomore Samantha Rubin did not stop a shot for the Devils.
The Pioneers will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 4, at home against Western Connecticut at 1:00 p.m.
