Men’s Basketball Falls in NJAC Tournament First Round at Rutgers-Newark

Pioneers Suffer 78-52 Defeat

NEWARK, N.J. – Sixth-seeded William Paterson (13-13, 8-10 NJAC) saw its season come to an end with a 78-52 loss at third-seeded Rutgers-Newark (20-6, 14-4 NJAC) Feb. 20 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Men's Basketball Tournament first round.

Senior guard Bright Mensah (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) led WP with 13 points, while senior guard Terik Bridgeman (Harlem, N.Y./Nia Prep) had 12 tallies and 15 rebounds.

A 12-2 run allowed the Scarlet Raiders to open up a 20-6 advantage less than nine minutes into the contest, but thanks in part to three points apiece from junior guard Zach Frick (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) and Bridgeman, WP cut it to four at 20-16 with 8:09 on the clock. Rutgers-Newark responded with nine unanswered points, and carried a 37-22 edge into the break. The Scarlet Raiders came out of the locker room hot, bursting out to a 59-28 lead by the 10:57 mark.

Senior forward Jordan McDaniel led Rutgers-Newark with 18 points. Senior guard John Snow contributed 17 tallies and 10 rebounds.
