Men’s Soccer Punches Ticket to ECAC Semifinals with 2-1 Victory

Pioneers Defeat CSI on Late Penalty Kick

MAHWAH, N.J. – A penalty kick during the match's final minute lifted second-seeded William Paterson (9-8-3) to a 2-1 victory against fourth-seeded Staten Island (12-8-2) in the quarterfinal round of the ECAC Men's Soccer Tournament Nov. 13 at Ramapo College.
 
WP moves on to the semifinals Saturday, Nov. 19, against Lebanon Valley. The location and time have not yet been determined. The same site will host the championship match Sunday, Nov. 20.
 
Junior midfielder Dante Petrocelli (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) played a ball into the right side of the box and freshman back Andre Michalec (Yardville, N.J./Steinert) was tripped as he attempted to play the ball, resulting in a foul and penalty kick. Freshman midfielder Darwin Cruz (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) stepped up and buried the attempt to the inside of the right post with 53.6 seconds remaining for the deciding goal.
 
The Dolphins got on the scoreboard just 29 seconds into the contest when senior back Marcin Klim finished a pass from senior midfielder Mohamed Ndao.
 
Freshman midfielder/back Keysean Brant-Sharp (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) provided the equalizer with an unassisted strike at the 49:47 mark, taking the ball up the right side and ripping a shot that hit the post and bounced into the net.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Quigley (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional) made four saves for the Pioneers, and freshman Jake Foeldes finished with two stops for CSI.
