Adelman Has Hat Trick for Pioneers

Video Highlights

WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's soccer team (8-2-1) cruised to an 8-0 victory against visiting John Jay (4-7) Oct. 3.

Freshman back Ashley Cozzi (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) collected her first career goal when she ran on to a Marisa Adelman (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) pass, dribbled toward the left end line and fired to the right side of the frame 1:07 into the contest.

Adelman knocked a ball off the right post and it spun into the left netting. Senior midfielder Amanda Carmichael (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional) was credited with the assist, and the Pioneers owned a 2-0 edge 50 seconds later.

Adelman chased down a long ball from sophomore back Darcy Perez (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) up the left flank, and she connected to the opposite side of the goal in the eighth minute for her second goal of the night.

Perez headed in a corner kick from junior back Adrianna Oliveira (Union, N.J./Union), making it a 4-0 margin at the 20:23 mark.

Adelman completed her first career hat trick when she looped a shot over the keeper's head off a breakaway in the 49th minute.

An initial save of a bending Ellie Palmer (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) corner kick was finished by freshman midfielder Kristen Bowe (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) at the 50:50 mark, and classmate Carla LaRocca (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick) scored from distance in the 60th minute to push the lead to 7-0.

Junior back Jacquelin Nelson (Boonton, N.J./Morris Knolls) had a quick burst up the middle and fired to the center of the goal, finishing the scoring with less than 19 minutes remaining.

Sophomore goalkeeper Angela Sandelli (Landing, N.J./Roxbury) did not face a shot during the first half, and classmate Torii Zamorski (Linden, N.J./Union Catholic) made one second-half save. Junior Kelli Doherty collected 18 stops for the Bloodhounds as the Pioneers compiled a 39-1 shot advantage.

William Paterson will play at Drew Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 4:30 p.m.
